Canada has announced that it is mandatory for Indian visa applicants and other nations in Asia to present their biometrics for purposes of identification from Dec. 31, 2018.
The current rule will be proposed for those appealing for a Canada visitor visa, study or work permit, PR or asylum in the nation, as per the government of Canada.
In 2018, Canada will increase its program of biometrics. Expanding biometrics will make strong immigration programs of Canada by proper screening and will also aid processing of application and travel – while continuing public confidence in our system of immigration, a government of Canada statement said.
Until now, only the United Kingdom, United States, and Schengen nations asked Indian visa candidates to present biometrics.
Implementation Dates of Biometrics
Canada made information of biometrics compulsory for visa candidates from the Middle East, Europe, and Africa on July 31, 2018. The rule gets into effect for visa applicants from Asia-Pacific, Asia, and the America from Dec. 31, 2018. All applicants of visa must submit their photo and fingerprints to a preferred visa application center and embassies.
As per the Canada government, collection of biometrics will promote faster processing of the application and simplify admission into Canada for low-risk travelers. All candidates between the age group of 14 and 79 years need to provide information of biometrics. The exception has been provided to children below 14 and adults over 79 years old and refugees.
Importance of Biometrics in Canada
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (R.C.M.P) will put the data of fingerprints in the National Repository and will utilize it to control immigration and criminal records. The biometric check proves if someone who appealed to move Canada priorly using the same or a separate identity and has a past Canada criminal record or has been deported from Canada earlier.
