For the second consecutive month, in December, Canada has successfully maintained a low unemployment rate after the commencement of records in 1976. The Statistics Canada Labor Survey confirmed that unemployment was just 5.6 percent, which is the same as in November. In 2018, there were additional 163,000 jobs in Canada. Moreover, the main reason for the increase was the presence of full-time positions.

Provincial Canada Jobs Picture

Moreover, among the Provinces, Newfoundland & Labrador moved significantly and added 2,700 jobs in December. The unemployment declined to 11.7%. Ontario added 17,600 jobs in December, and also the unemployment declined to 5.4 %per cent, which is lower than the national average. Also, Quebec added 3,700 jobs and had unemployment of 5.5 % lower than the national average. British Columbia successfully added 4,400 jobs in December and had unemployment of 4.4%. Furthermore, there was a decline in employment in PEI, Alberta, and New Brunswick.

Canada Jobs by Industry

Noting the industry perspective, in December 24,000 people were employed in manufacturing and the leaders were Ontario and Alberta. Moreover, there was an increase in Transportation and warehousing by adding 15,000 jobs in December. Furthermore, 11,000 people gained employment in health care and social assistance in December.
