BC Issues Invitations in Its Entrepreneur Immigration Regional Pilot Program

British Columbia immigration issued invitations through the Entrepreneur Immigration Regional Pilot category to the first candidates to submit their applications. The draw was held on June 13th and five invitations were issued to candidates who had a score of 118 points. Simultaneously, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program issued invitations in the general category of Entrepreneur Immigration stream. 20 invitations were issued to candidates in this draw at a score of 117 points. Moreover, the province also added twelve communities in its Regional Pilot stream recently. The pilot runs for two years and attracts many entrepreneurs to create businesses in small communities that have a population of less than 75,000 persons. Furthermore these small communities face an acute issue to deal with aging populations and a shrinking labor market.

Requirements for the Entrepreneur Immigration in the Regional Pilots

For Community

  • The Population must be below 75,000 persons,
  • Its Location must be beyond 30km from any municipality that has a population of 75,000.
  • It must show a capacity to support overseas entrepreneurs with a fine network of settlement and agencies supporting business.
  • Immigration training specific to the pilot- must be done by community representatives.

For Candidate

  • Intention to start a business and settle in the regional community of BC
  • Completing the exploratory visit.
  • Minimum investments - $100,000 in an eligible business.
  • Minimum net worth must be $300,000.
  • 51 percent ownership.
  • Creation of one new job

Requirements for the B.C. Entrepreneur Category

BC Business candidates in this category have to meet these criteria:

  • A personal net worth of $800,000;
  • Making an investment of $400 000 for establishing/ purchasing and expanding eligible business;
  • Creating three jobs for Canadian citizens/ PRs;
  • Participating in the daily administration/direction of the business;
  • Signing of a performance agreement with the provincial authorities before nomination;
  • Candidates belonging to the Entrepreneur category can also sponsor a staff member to get the permanent residence in Canada

Qualifying For the Regional Entrepreneur Category

BC Business candidates in this category have to meet these criteria:

  • A personal net worth of $400,000;
  • Making an investment of $200,000 for establishing/ purchasing and expanding eligible business outside the metropolitan areas of Vancouver/Abbotsford;
  • Creating one new job for a Canadian citizen/ PR;
  • Participating in the daily administration/direction of the business;
  • Signing of a performance agreement with the provincial authorities before nomination.
