118th Express Entry Draw Invites 3,350 Candidates to Apply For Canada PR

Canada held its 118th Express Entry Draw in which the CRS cutoff was 470. This was a first all-program Express Entry draw happening after a gap of four weeks, and issued 3,350 Invitations to Apply for Canada PR.

Factors in this draw

The main reasons for the increase in the minimum CRS score were:

1) A delay of four-week from the previous draw, which is normally two weeks. However, IRCC targeted Federal Skilled Trades Program candidates in the May 15 draw where the least CRS was 332 points. There was a buildup of many top-scoring candidates due to a long period that increased the minimum CRS.

2) Additionally, there was No draw specific to a province alongside Federal Skilled Trades draw

Furthermore, as there was no Provincial Nominee Program draw complementary to the Federal Skilled Trades Program draw, it allowed many candidates having 600 points in the provincial nomination to build up, and thereby increase the minimum CRS threshold.

Canada has presently issued 35,100 ITAs in this year, and the immigration target is 81,400 in the backdrop of an impressive performance last year.

Using the tie-breaking method

Moreover, in the draw, there was a tie-breaking method on May 23, 2019, at 6.18am EST. In case there are many candidates with the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date as well as time they submit an Express Entry profile. This was the eleventh invitations round in 2019 under Express Entry.

Details of Express Entry

The implementation of Express Entry immigration system by IRCC began in January 2015 to manage the applications of skilled worker under the Federal Economic programs. These are:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program,
  • Canada Experience Class
  • Parts of the Provincial Nomination Programs
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canada Experience Class

Most of the experts feel that there will be 30 draws inviting around 80,000 aspirants in 2019. Most of these draws will feature a CRS score lower than 460 so that the authorities can easily meet the target of annual immigration for 2019.

Employers must consider securing LMIA or a provincial nomination to ensure retention of employees for the long term. Furthermore, the Candidates must prepare well to score the necessary 460 points.
